GR1: The Philosophy of Chart Grammar

  • 12 Steps
The Syntax of Astrology Course

About

This is the first installment of the Syntax of Astrology course. It's being offered as a stand-alone module for those wishing to complete the prerequisite grammar basics that are required before our other more advanced courses. Although each Syntax module covers a different topic, it's recommended that you do them in sequential order, since the concepts build upon each other. In this free module, we discuss the Aristotelian hylomorphic doctrine of Form and Matter. This doctrine becomes a fundamental component in Aristotle's understanding of the nature of change, which is what the astrological language is representing in the charts. His ideas provide the foundation for the linguistic components used in all of our chart interpretation methods. This module also discusses the strengths and problems encountered in both modern and traditional approaches to astrology, which are addressed through this Aristotelian foundation. The actual grammatical structures are more fully discussed in modules GR2 to GR5. We do not recommend you taking the modules out of sequential order!
